Bernd Wiesberger will be looking to complete two unique trebles as he seeks a third Rolex Series win at the 2020 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA.
The Austrian won last season's Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open and Italian Open as he finished third on the Race to Dubai Rankings presented by Rolex, and a victory at Abu Dhabi Golf Club would see him make history in the desert.
Should he turn around the one shot deficit to 54 hole leader Lee Westwood and lift the trophy on Sunday, he will become the first player to win three different Rolex Series events and the first to hold three Rolex Series titles at the same time.
It is all a far cry from 12 months ago, when his tie for 42nd in Abu Dhabi was his first under par finish after seven months out of the game with a wrist injury.
"It's worlds apart from last year," he said.
"Anybody who has been an injured athlete and coming back from that, you never know quite how you'll perform and certainly I wasn't performing to the standard I was maybe used to or expecting of myself.
"It's tough to adjust and keep doing the things that you think are right. I think I did that well and obviously getting the win under my belt earlyish in the year, that really helped my self-confidence and we were able to progress from there nicely.
"It's been a lot of changes in the last 12 months for sure."
Francesco Laporta is also in a very different position to 12 months ago as he heads into the final 18 holes alongside Wiesberger at 13 under.
The Italian had no professional victories and no European Tour card at the start of 2019 but with two European Challenge Tour wins now under his belt, he is right in the mix to become a Rolex Series champion.
"It would be just a dream," he said. "I just want to think about my score and my game. Trying not to see the leaderboard, it's not going to be easy, here's going to be leaderboards everywhere.
"I think it's going to be a good day tomorrow."
