Victor Perez admitted it would be "incredible" to win two Rolex Series titles in as many weeks after a flawless 66 put him in a strong position going into Monday's final round at the 2023 Hero Dubai Desert Classic.
The Frenchman kicked off the new year with victory at last week's Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship as a memorable bunker shot at the 17th helped him overcome a star-studded field in the first Rolex Series event of the season.
And he brought that fine form with him to Emirates Golf Club for this week's weather-affected tournament, carding six birdies and no bogeys in Sunday's third round to head into round four on 11 under par.
With another Rolex Series title on the line on Monday, Perez would love to make it two in a row but knows he faces a tough task, with World Number One Rory McIlroy out in front on 15 under.
He said: "It would be incredible to go back-to-back, obviously two Rolex Series events to start the year, it would be incredible.
"I think it would be probably the best start in DP World Tour history or something like that.
"It would be great. It's going to be a tough battle with some great players and it's going to take a low one probably to get it done tomorrow."
Perez made three birdies on both nines on Sunday and managed to keep the bogeys off his card but said it was not all plain sailing.
He added: "It wasn't as clean as probably the scorecard says.
"I struggled a bit at the start with a good up-and-down on the second, I chipped in on the third, made some nice putts.
"I got a bit fortunate out of the rough where the ball ended up in a decent spot where you can never 100 per cent predict, so I was quite happy with that.
"I started hitting some better shots on the back nine, and it felt like a really good solid round for a Sunday today which leads into tomorrow's final round."
