Sebastian Söderberg highlighted the importance of bouncing back quickly from a triple bogey after producing a stunning 66 to sit one shot off the lead after the third round of the 2023 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
The Swede got off to a strong start on Saturday, with birdies at the first, second, fifth and seventh taking him to ten under par before a six at the par-three eighth threatened to derail his round.
But he recovered brilliantly, birdieing the ninth from six feet before holing a monster putt at the long 11th for an eagle.
The 32-year-old then followed that up with back-to-back birdies at the 12th and 13th to reach 12 under par.
He said: "I'm happy I (gathered myself) because it could have gone either way, I felt like.
"I just tried to remind myself that I was playing well.
"I shouldn't be in that position left of that flag because I've been struggling a little bit with lag putts - that's pretty steep uphill and then down.
"Apart from that blunder, it was a pretty good day, and I think it was very important to make birdie on the next and just try to gather myself and get some momentum back."
Frenchman Victor Perez also heads into the final round just one behind co-leaders Shane Lowry, Francesco Molinari and Min Woo Lee after his 68, which featured five birdies and one bogey.
He expects a close contest on Sunday. Perez said: "As expected, I think with the weather being calm this morning, you expect guys to shoot eight or nine under and then as always, it's jam-packed with ten guys within two shots of the lead right now.
"So it's going to come down to little details. It's going to come down to probably a bit of luck and hopefully make a great winner."
