Reed playing the long game at Wentworth

Patrick Reed may have crossed the Atlantic to Wentworth Golf Club to boost his chances of winning the Race to Dubai but he insists he is taking it one day at a time now the 2020 BMW PGA Championship is under way.

The American has long spoken of his desire to be crowned European Tour Number One and currently leads the Race to Dubai Rankings presented by Rolex with the help of his win at the WGC-Mexico Championship and two top 20 finishes in Major Championships.

He was making serene progress at the third Rolex Series event of the season before he found water on the eighth for a double bogey and an opening round of 70 but that keeps him well in contention and, as the man himself would testify, another round is another opportunity.

"It's a dream of mine and a goal of mine to not only win the Race to Dubai but win worldwide," he said.

"So for me it's very important but, really, I don't try to look at the end result and kind of that far down the road.

"I want to take care of each and every day and try to get better with my game and be in on Sundays. If you're doing that enough, competing Sunday afternoons and you're able to close them off, then that end result, winning the Race to Dubai, FedExCup, things like that, it all comes together and falls in place.

"So really the biggest thing for me this week is to continue hopefully playing well, clean it up a little bit and hopefully have a chance late Sunday and see where that takes me."
