Jon Rahm is setting his sights on three wins in a row and a piece of European Tour history as he begins a fortnight of links golf at the 2021 abrdn Scottish Open.
The Spaniard has been dominant in the Rolex Series since its inception in 2017, and when he became a four time winner at the 2019 DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, he had twice as many Rolex Series wins as any other player.
But since then, Tyrrell Hatton has won the 2020 BMW PGA Championship and the 2021 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship to join him on four victories in the European Tour's prestige events.
Now, fresh off his maiden Major Championship win at the U.S. Open, Rahm is looking to reclaim his place as Rolex Series top dog at The Renaissance Club and then claim another piece of history at Royal St George's Golf Club next week.
Should he win this week and then lift the Claret Jug, Rahm would be the first player to win the Open Championship, Scottish Open and Irish Open.
I wouldn't be here if I didn't want to win, hopefully I can give myself a chance
And while sandwiching a Rolex Series win with two Major victories in consecutive starts is a lofty ambition, the World Number One has no problem with aiming high.
"I've had a lot of success in this area of the world and so far I've only been able to win in Ireland," he said.
"I know all these events have a lot of prestige, they have been on the European Tour for a very, very long time.
"There's not many players that can say they have won the Irish Open, the Scottish Open and The Open so hopefully I can get the last two in the next few weeks. It would be something incredible.
"I wouldn't be here if I didn't want to win, hopefully I can give myself a chance."
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this is the Race to Dubai Rankings presented by Rolex leader's first appearance on European soil since October 2019, and he is delighted to be playing a different brand of golf.
"I'm very excited," he said. "I'm very happy. I always love coming back.
"Sometimes the change in place, change in golf, it's very needed. It's refreshing to be here where it's not a million degrees like Arizona or like anywhere else.
"I am excited to be here. It's a spot in the calendar I haven't played yet. I haven't played this golf course but I've heard a lot of good things about it. After playing it the last few days, I'd say it's a great track. Hopefully I can put in a good week."
