Louis Oosthuizen is hoping he can keep his focus fully on golf as he heads into the weekend two shots off the lead at the Nedbank Golf Challenge hosted by Gary Player.
The home hero revealed he spent time in hospital on Wednesday due to kidney stones and was on his knees at 3.00am before his opening round, not sure he would be able to tee it up at all at Gary Player Country Club.
He made it to the first, and an opening 63 handed him a three shot lead after 18 holes - matching the biggest first round lead of the 2019 Race to Dubai.
The 2010 Open Champion admitted he did not feel at his best in firing a second round 72 - with fatigue also playing its part - but is confident the worst is over as he goes in search of a first Rolex Series win.
"Definitely more fatigued today, especially the last six, seven holes," he said. "The tee shot on the 14th, I hit it on the right side. I think it was more muscle related than anything else.
"The stones have passed, I just need to get some rest and play good tomorrow.
"It was scruffy, I didn't play great. It was tough, the wind was all over the place and I just didn't hit the good shots. Hopefully tomorrow it's a bit better.
"There is holes where you can attack but there's a lot of holes where you just need to respect them and just take par and go to the next hole."
