Rory McIlroy was delighted to learn from his mistakes as he followed up a disappointing 75 with a 65 to get right in contention for a third victory at the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.
The Northern Irishman opened with a 64 but was ten shots worse off on day two before a third round 65 got him within two shots of the lead heading into the final 18 holes of the 2019 Race to Dubai.
With Jon Rahm and Mike Lorenzo-Vera in front of him and Tommy Fleetwood just two shots behind, the Northern Irishman knows he will have to be at his best on Sunday, but he is hopeful his experience at Jumeirah Golf Estates can help fire him to a first Rolex Series title.
"That's what life is all about," he said. "It's learning from what you do and being of a present mind so that you can learn as you go.
"I sort of figured out what I did wrong yesterday and I was able to rectify it somewhat today and get myself back in the tournament.
"Winning would be really cool, especially with the guys that are up there around the lead. You've got Rahmbo is playing great, Tommy, obviously, Mike is holding steady up there.
"I've got to play another really good round of golf tomorrow to have a chance but it would be awesome to win around here again and obviously cap off what has been a great 2019.
"It is nice to come back to courses that you're familiar with all the time and that brings its own advantages compared to maybe some of the other guys in the field.
"It's been a great year so far and this is my last event of the year. It would be wonderful going into the break to finish on a high."
Fleetwood heads into the final day looking not just for back to back victories after his win at last week's Nedbank Golf Challenge hosted by Gary Player, but also a second Race to Dubai title in three years.
He needs to at least catch Rahm to have any chance of being crowned Europe's Number One and hopes his previous experiences will stand him in good stead.
"There's one tournament going on and then there's the Race to Dubai going on," he said. "I think it's just an extra challenge, that's all.
"So far, I feel like I've done a great job of it. I've been lucky enough that I've been doing this for three years in a row now coming to this event, so I'd like to keep that track record going and tick a few off.
"Tomorrow it will be shot by shot, step by step, and see what we can do."
