Matthew Jordan is hoping to make the most of his strong start to the second Rolex Series event of the season after posting a 68 on day one of the weather-affected Hero Dubai Desert Classic.
Englishman Jordan was one of just 12 players to complete 18 holes on Thursday after all tee times were delayed by six hours and five minutes following overnight rain.
And he found himself one shot off the lead when the first round was suspended due to fading light after making five birdies and a solitary bogey to reach four under par.
Jordan knows the importance of playing well at the prestigious Rolex Series events, and is aiming to build on his solid start to the week, having faltered over the weekend in Abu Dhabi and Dubai last season.
He said: "I made both cuts last year but did pretty poor on the weekends and realised how many (points) I could have gained at the start of the year.
"For me that was something I learned, and yeah, the fact that it's the Rolex Series, it's rare isn't it, so definitely, it is big."
Jordan revealed he just took things one hole at a time on a day of uncertainty on Thursday.
He said: "If you shoot a good score here, you enjoy it. It was challenging in terms of we knew rain was coming and darkness and everything else.
"So there was a bit of uncertainty whether we would finish or what happened during the round. I just tried to get off to a good start and keep playing hole-by-hole until we stopped, basically."
