Molinari has pinpointed his victory last season at Wentworth Golf Club as the catalyst for his triumph at Carnoustie Golf Links as he enjoyed a glorious summer that saw him crowned Europe's Number One.

The change in the schedule means that Lowry's Royal Portrush triumph has come before the trip to Surrey but after claiming his maiden Rolex Series victory at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA, the 32-year-old sits atop the Race to Dubai Rankings Presented by Rolex heading into the closing part of the season.

And he is now looking to carry that momentum all the way to the Middle East and lift the Harry Vardon Trophy in November.

"I've got quite a few events left this year and they are all big events," he said. "I'm obviously number one in the Race to Dubai now and I want to stay there but I'm going to have to play some good golf and I'm going to have to maybe win again.

"I'm just going to go out like I've been doing all year, day after day and try and shoot as good a score as I can and see where it leaves me the at the end of it.

"First and foremost I want to win the Race to Dubai at the end of the year."

While he will now go down in history as a Champion Golfer of the Year, Lowry was handed another laurel on Tuesday as European Tour Chief Executive Officer Keith Pelley awarded him Honorary Life Membership of the European Tour in recognition of his win in Northern Ireland.

The World Number 21 is experiencing a year full of special tributes but he admits the honour from his home Tour is especially meaningful.

"You start playing golf when you're a kid and you don't know how good you can be," he said. "Even when you started playing as a pro, I didn't know that I would get to this day but it's pretty cool.

"I've obviously joined a nice list of names, which is pretty good as well.

Lowry and Pelley

"My heart lies with the European Tour. I'll always be a member. I love coming back and I love playing in events like this. It's an extreme privilege."

Lowry has a good record at Wentworth, finishing second in 2014 and achieving three other top tens since 2010.

"I love it here," he added. "I think this is one of my favourite events in the world.

"The golf course, I've always really liked. They changed it a couple of years ago again, even when they made the changes first back in 2010, I actually really liked it and I just thought it was quite a difficult golf course and I just loved it.

"It's one of my favourite events of the year and I just love coming back."
