Jon Rahm won the 2019 Race to Dubai after his stunning victory at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.
The Spaniard’s putt from three feet turned out to be the richest putt in European Tour history, as the now six-time European Tour winner picked up a cool US$5million.
The win topped off a sensational year for the 25 year old, where he celebrated three victories on his way to becoming Race to Dubai champion.
The first of these came at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open – a Rolex Series Event – where Rahm reclaimed the trophy he won back in 2017.
Played at Lahinch Golf Club, County Clare, Rahm entered the weekend seven shots behind the leader.
But two weekend rounds of 64 and 62 saw the Ryder Cup start triumph by two strokes over Bernd Wiesberger and Andy Sullivan.
His next victory would come in his home Open, the Mutuactivos Open de España, played at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.
The home hero successfully defended his title with a dominant five shot victory.
It was another week where Rahm excelled on the weekend. In round three, the now Race to Dubai champion carded an eight under par 63 followed by a 66 to win by five strokes from fellow countryman Rafa Cabrera Bello.
This win saw Rahm enter the record books with a fifth European Tour victory in just 39 starts, beating fellow Spaniard Seve Ballesteros to five victories.
Finally, Rahm’s win in Dubai capped off a terrific year as he became DP World Tour Championship victor and Race to Dubai champion.
The winning putt saw Rahm pick up US$3million for winning the tournament and an extra US$2million from the Race to Dubai bonus pool.
When you take a deeper dive into Rahm’s stats, you realise just why he has triumphed three times on the European Tour this season.
He sits inside the top ten in the driving accuracy (5th), driving distance (8th), putts per GIR (2nd), sand saves (5th) and stroke average (2nd) categories.
Excelling in all aspects of the game, from hitting 68.50% of fairways and managing an average of 28.55 putts per round, it’s hard not to admire Rahm’s golf game with a stroke average of 68.75.
