In-form Westwood keen to kick on

Lee Westwood is keen to carry his fine form into this week's season-ending DP World Tour Championship, Dubai after winning his first European Tour title since 2014 on Sunday.

The Englishman produced a sensational closing 64 to win his 24th European Tour crown and maiden Rolex Series title at the Nedbank Golf Challenge hosted by Gary Player.

After ending his four-and-a-half-year wait for a European Tour win, Westwood wants to build on last week's performance when he tees it up at Jumeirah Golf Estates.

As the DP World Tour Championship celebrates its tenth staging Westwood, who won the very first in 2009, said: "I'm experienced enough and I've won enough tournaments often enough and won tournaments back-to-back to know that something like this is something that you can kick on from and take that confidence and momentum that I've got from playing well on Sunday in the final round into this week.

"Because I've only got one tournament left this year before I put the clubs away before Abu Dhabi next year.

"It would be nice to carry last week's confidence and form into this week.

"Obviously it's a golf course that suits me and I've played well on and I've got a pretty good game plan for. So you know, why not make the most of it."

Westwood, who was narrowly beaten by Henrik Stenson in the Hero Challenge final on Tuesday night, believes the manner in which he closed out last week's victory has given his game a lift.

He added: "Winning a tournament, one as big as the Nedbank, playing like that in the final round and keeping everything together - I'm in a much better place with my game right now than I was, say, after Valderrama where I went out after the rain delay there and dropped four shots and finished fifth.

"Yeah, right now, I'm in a better spot than I was two weeks ago."
