In-form Bjerregaard feeling good on Lake Garda

Lucas Bjerregaard is looking to turn his recent excellent form on the European Tour into a first Rolex Series win when he tees it up at this week's Italian Open.

An elite field is gathered at Gardagolf Country Club to battle it out for a seven million US dollar prize fund and few of them will arrive in the same sort of form as the big-hitting Dane.

Bjerregaard missed the cut at four of the eight Rolex Series events last season but won a first European Tour title at the Portugal Masters before getting 2018 off to a slow start.

He missed five of his first seven cuts but finished sixth at the Volvo China Open, fifth at the Rocco Forte Sicilian Open and then in a tie for third at last week's BMW PGA Championship.

The 26 year old stormed through the field with a closing 65 at Wentworth Club on Sunday and is now looking to carry that momentum into the second Rolex Series event of the campaign.

"It was a really good week," he said. "I played lovely and saw a lot of progress in my game and it was nice to see some of that form I've had in China and Sicily go on to one of the bigger events. It's the first time I've done well in a Rolex Series event so it was a great week.

"I would have loved to give Francesco (Molinari) a little bit more of a go there down the last few holes but all-in-all it was a very good week for me.

"I've taken a lot of confidence from that and my game is progressing nicely the last month or so, hopefully that can continue. I'd love to do well here but if I can just continue doing some of the stuff I have been doing, that would be nice."

Bjerregaard finished third in this event in 2015 at Golf Club Milano and believes he will have to go low if he is to challenge again by the shore of Lake Garda.

"I played 18 this morning and it looks lovely," he said. "It's in great condition, very soft. It should be good fun, I can see scores being fairly low so you're probably going to have to out there and make a few birdies. I'm really looking forward to it."
