Hovland hungry for maiden European Tour win

Viktor Hovland may not be in with a chance of winning the Race to Dubai on Sunday - but that does not mean he will not be going all out for a first European Tour victory at the 2020 DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.

The Norwegian is playing this week due to his position in the top 75 in the Official World Golf Ranking having moved up to 15th last week after his second US PGA Tour win of the season.

Sitting at 113th on the Race to Dubai Rankings presented by Rolex, he was one of just four players in the 65 man field who arrived at Jumeirah golf Estates this week unable to take home the Harry Vardon Trophy.

But a Rolex Series victory at one of the European Tour's biggest events is also on the line, and Hovland enters the final round just one shot off the lead after going 71-69-66.

"I grew up watching the European Tour, growing up in Norway, it's a lot closer to home," he said.

"I've already had a couple of wins on the PGA Tour and it would be really nice to add to the resume by getting one on the European Tour."

He added: "I feel like I hit it well the first two days... I just didn't really get it that close.

"Today I was able to hit my approach shots a little closer. Drove it a little better off the tee, so that set that up, and I was able to make a couple of putts early and just kind of get the momentum from the get-go."

Adri Arnaus is alongside Hovland at ten under and the Spaniard is fully focused on claiming a maiden victory after three runner up finishes last season.

"At the end of the day, we play for trophies," he said. "I want to have that opportunity tomorrow going into the back nine, so I want to put myself in that position and after that, we'll see how things unfold."
