Hatton reined in on day four at Wentworth

Tournament debutant Victor Perez joined overnight leader Tyrrell Hatton at the top of the BMW PGA Championship leaderboard after making a lightning quick start to his final round.

Home favourite Hatton began the day with a three shot advantage but as he opened his round with four straight pars to remain at 14 under, Frenchman Perez fired an eagle and a birdie in his first five holes to grab a share of the lead.

On a day of low scoring at Wentworth Golf Club, the chasing pack started to close in on Hatton before the Englishman had even teed off, with his countrymen Matthew Fitzpatrick and Andy Sullivan making big moves.

Perez closed the gap on Hatton to two shots when he picked up a birdie at the par three second after sending his tee shot to six feet.

Hatton got up and down from a bunker to save par at the first before narrowly missing his birdie try from around 12 feet on the second green.

The World Number 15's impeccable short game skills came to his rescue once again at the third as he chipped to within a few feet of the cup from the apron for another par.

But as Hatton stayed still, Perez took full advantage with an eagle from 22 feet at the long fourth to join him at the summit.

Hatton set up a great birdie chance at the fourth, knocking his third shot from the rough to seven feet, but he could not convert it.

England’s Andy Sullivan was two shots behind after racing to the turn in 30, with Matt Fitzpatrick and Joachim B. Hansen another stroke adrift.
