Hansen ready to fight for big prize at Wentworth

Joachim B. Hansen admits there will be a few nerves but he is relishing the challenge as he prepares for potentially the biggest day of his career so far at the 2020 BMW PGA Championship.

The Dane has two wins on the European Challenge Tour from 2018 when he topped the Rankings as he graduated onto the European Tour for the third time.

He finished second at last season's Amundi Open de France en route to a top 50 finish on the Race to Dubai but a Rolex Series victory would truly take his career to the next level.

The 30-year-old birdied two of his final three holes to card a 70 on day three at Wentworth Golf Club and will go out in the final group three shots behind playing partner and 54 hole leader Tyrrell Hatton.

"It would be very special," he said of the prospect of winning the European Tour's flagship event. "We'll see what happens.

"Obviously the body is going to be a bit different, a bit more nerves and all that but the plan is to go out and do what we've done the first three days here and keep grinding.

"It's a big tournament, big players here as well and a lot of World Ranking points and all that. It's definitely going to take a little bit tomorrow."

Victor Perez is alongside Hansen at 11 under and already has a European Tour win under his belt at last season's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

The Frenchman also has two second place finishes at Rolex Series events and a top five at a World Golf Championships, and he is excited to be in contention once again at the biggest events.

"That's what we play for, these moments where you have an opportunity to win," he said.

"There's so much we can do and tomorrow somebody could go out and shoot nine under and we won't even sniff it.

"All I can do is play as hard as I can and try to put a good score out there and see where it takes me, but I can control myself."

The 28-year-old made a stunning eagle on the last after a brilliant up-and-down for par on the 16th and is hopeful he can carry that late momentum into Sunday.

"I felt like I definitely didn't have my best," he said. "To say the least, I struggled, but it's good to find a couple of good swings coming in and obviously the eagle on the last is icing on the cake to finish the day and puts me in good position for tomorrow.

"My caddie JP was saying, I was one over par hitting my third shot on 16, really. So it's definitely pleasing to have a round where you definitely don't have anywhere near your average, like your best or average play, and still get in under par."
