As part of the preparations for The 2022 Ryder Cup, which will be held at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome, a host of talented juniors took part in a fun exhibition event at this week’s Italian Open.
For the third consecutive year gifted youngsters from across Italy competed in the match play event, which pits two opposing teams against one another, mimicking what happens every two years between Europe and the USA.
In the competition itself Team Italia defeated Team Lazio 9.5 - 8.5. The two teams comprised of 12 players each: five Under-12s (four boys and one girl), five Under-14s (three boys and two girls) along with two wildcards selected by the Captains, themselves promising young golfers.
Team Italia was captained by Alessia Nobillio – who competed in the 2018 Junior Ryder Cup – while highly-rated amateur Dylan De Prosperis took charge of Team Lazio.
Following the conclusion of the event, the young players met four-time European Tour winner – and former Junior Ryder Cup player – Matteo Manassero, along with Ryder Cup stars Justin Rose and Ian Poulter.
