Wu Ashun maintained his one shot lead over a charging Christiaan Bezuidenhout as Emirates Golf Club bared its teeth on the final day of the 2020 Omega Dubai Desert Classic.
The Chinese played his first nine holes in level par to stay at 11 under on a day when high winds and spells of rain made scoring very difficult in the desert.
Bezuidenhout did not seem to be struggling with the conditions, though, as he picked up five shots in his first 15 holes.
Defending champion Bryson DeChambeau was then at eight under through ten, a shot clear of Australian Lucas Herbert, American Kurt Kitayama and England's Tom Lewis.
Wu was showing all his resilience after finishing 137th on last season's Race to Dubai, while South African Bezuidenhout knows how to win on tough golf courses having claimed his maiden European Tour title last season at Real Club Valderrama.
While everybody else was struggling against the elements, Bezuidenhout was thriving, birdieing the par three fourth and seventh to turn in 33.
He then started his back nine by taking advantage of the par five tenth and holing a long putt from the fringe at the 11th to move into a share of second.
Wu was battling but he was level par through five holes and made an excellent up-and-down from sand on the sixth - holing from the fringe - to stay at 11 under.
His tee shot on the next went over the back of the green but he produced an exquisite chip over the ridge that turned from right to left and dropped into the cup.
His three shot advantage did not last for long, however, as Bezuidenhout got up and down from a bunker on the par five 13th to move into double figures.
DeChambeau had been at 11 under after almost driving the par four second and making the most of the par five third but bogeys on the fourth, sixth and eighth sent him backwards.
The American gave a fist pumping celebration as he made a gutsy par after almost finding the water on the ninth and he was a shot closer to the lead when Wu missed a short putt on the eighth as the rain began to fall.
Herbert had completed 14 holes in two under, while Kitayama and Lewis were both two over at the turn.
