Wood and Morrison happy to be home

Englishmen Chris Wood and James Morrison were enjoying home comforts on the first day of the British Masters supported by Sky Sports.

Morrison, who was among the early starters on Thursday, sits one shot off the overnight lead after posting an opening-round 67 which included six birdies and two bogeys.

Wood, meanwhile, was another shot further back on three under after closing his round with back-to-back birdies.

Ryder Cup star Wood, who was playing alongside tournament host Luke Donald and Andy Sullivan in the afternoon, hailed the atmosphere created by the fans at The Grove.

"We were saying on the way around, it's great to play in front of home crowds," said Wood.

"Not just because they are British but just the numbers out there. We're obviously in a good group with the host, Luke and Sully and myself, but going around all 18 holes, the fairways are lined and the greens are great. It's a great atmosphere.

"It's an advantage, obviously, when you have home support and everyone knows who you are, I suppose.

"But yeah, it would be great to put myself in contention because we know the crowds are going to be great over the weekend. You know, it's so enjoyable playing in that sort of environment."

Morrison was also happy to be playing in front of home fans.

He added: "It's nice to be playing at home in front of semi-home crowds and always nice to play well in the UK. A great week would be good.

"I'm in my own bed this week, which is nice. It's 35 minutes (away from home) so it's not too far away.

"It's great to play in front of the English fans. I hope to do more of it."
