England's Oliver Wilson moved into a one-stroke lead midway through his second round at the UBS Hong Kong Open.
The 28 year old, who lost out to Sergio Garcia in a play-off at the recent HSBC Champions, started the day two shots behind overnight leaders Liang Wen-chong and Richard Sterne but maintained his charge for a maiden European Tour victory at the Hong Kong Golf Club in the second event on The Race to Dubai.
Starting on the tenth, Wilson reeled off four birdies against one bogey to reach the turn at three under and claim the outright lead at seven under overall.
Chinese Taipei's Lin Wen-tang moved onto six under through nine holes after carding two birdies and one bogey.
He was alongside Sterne, who was level par through seven, Italy's Francesco Molinari and Liang, who will tee off early in the afternoon.
Colin Montgomerie made a solid start to his second round with four birdies and one bogey through 11 moving the Scot to within two shots of the lead and he was alongside Swede Peter Hanson at five under overall.
Miguel Angel Jimenez improved upon his disappointing performance from yesterday and was two under through nine but will need to pick up birdies coming home if the Spaniard is to have a chance of defending his Hong Kong title.
Former US Open champion Michael Campbell, who on Thursday carded a 71, withdrew before the start of Friday`s play due to a shoulder injury.
"It's always disappointing to have to withdraw from event and this is no exception," he said.
"But my shoulder has been causing me concern for sometime now and it was hurting so much last night I had to call a doctor to my hotel."
Campbell added that he will decide whether to play at the Australian Masters next week after consulting with a specialist on Monday.
