Tournament host Danny Willett reflected on a "tale of two halves" after following up Thursday's 73 with a stunning 65 on day two of the 2022 Betfred British Masters hosted by Danny Willett.
Willett had been three over par as he reached the turn on day one, having carded five bogeys and two birdies in his opening nine holes at The Belfry.
But the 2016 Masters Tournament winner staged a recovery, firing two birdies in a bogey-free 34 on the back nine to sign for an opening 73.
And any lingering fears of missing the cut were banished completely on Friday as early starter Willett made eight birdies and a single bogey on his way to a 65 - the lowest round of the tournament so far.

Willett's total could have been even lower, with his only dropped shot coming at the ninth - his final hole - but at six under par, the Englishman was happy with his position heading into the weekend considering he made such a slow start to the event.
He said: "It was just really a tale of two halves.
"Today felt like me (playing). Yesterday felt like my brother.
"It's nice to be in position going into the weekend. Fingers crossed we can play well.
"The crowds have been amazing. Even at 8.30 this morning, they were a few rows deep down 10.
"Fingers crossed they keep piling in and we can play well."
