Wiesberger hoping the work pays off in Oman

Bernd Wiesberger is hoping his encouraging play gets the reward it deserves this week as he makes his debut at the Oman Open.

The Austrian made just seven appearances last season before his campaign was ended by a wrist injury but he has missed no time getting back into the swing of things, featuring six times so far in the 2019 Race to Dubai.

Those six appearances have resulted in four missed cuts but Wiesberger is convinced he is heading in the right direction to add to his four European Tour titles.

"It's a lot better than the scorecards show lately," he said. "Obviously I'm not quite there when it gets into tournament weeks but I've been working hard. I've been working on things that are going to improve my game long term.

"It's never easy after a long lay off with injury to come back and play well right away again. I expected it to be a bit easier but it's a nice process and I'm up for it.

"I'm taking it week by week but I think I've been doing the right things to come back to the position where I've been in the last couple of years."

Wiesberger did not play in the inaugural event here last season but he has been mightily impressed by what he has seen so far at Al Mouj Golf.

"I got here a little bit earlier because I've heard not only the golf course but the whole country is really, really nice and so far I've really enjoyed my time here," he said.

"I was able to play a couple of holes yesterday on the golf course which is brilliant. I managed to watch a bit on the TV last year and I'm glad to be here this year."
