Bernd Wiesberger felt like he had "turned a corner" after a closing 65 handed him a second-place finish at the KLM Open.
The Austrian has made every cut in regular European Tour events this season but this was only his third top ten, a disappointing return compared to recent campaigns for the three-time winner.
He found some excellent form at The Dutch, however, with rounds of 66-66-71-65 seeing him finish three shots behind triumphant home favourite Joost Luiten, who beat him to the line with a closing 63.
The 30 year old was right in contention up until a bogey on the 17th, and a poor tee-shot on the last meant he could not take advantage of the tee being moved up on the par five.
Despite that disappointing finish, Wiesberger is now hoping to kick on after securing his best result of the season in Spijk.
"It was a great final round but then I finished a bit sloppily unfortunately," he said. "But there were so many positives out there today and I hit so many good shots that I can take a lot of positives from the week.
This week has felt like I have turned a corner - Bernd Wiesberger
"My season hasn't been great so far this year - it certainly hasn't been up to the standard that I would expect so this week has felt like I have turned a corner.
"It was great to be back in contention on the back nine and nice to remind the guys that I am still around!
"All in all it was great fun out there and the other good thing about this week was my putting. That is something that I really want to take forward for the rest of the season and hopefully I can keep giving myself good chances to be in contention."
