When Tiger made three eagles in a row

Tiger Woods has taken apart many golf courses during his 20 years as a professional, but perhaps the hole he has dominated best is the 18th at The Grove.

The closing hole at this week’s British Masters was also the final hole at the 2006 WGC – American Express Championship, an event Tiger went on to win by eight shots over Ian Poulter and Adam Scott. During that week, Woods developed a unique relationship with the 567-yard par five that saw him make eagle during each of the first three rounds.

"It has been good to me that hole, hasn't it," Woods said after making three for the third straight day.

"I actually pulled my tee shot left into where the gallery was but I got a great lie, down grain, and I just hit a five wood trying to get anywhere right of the hole and it came out perfect. I had a left to right putt and I was just thinking 'make sure you get the pace right' and even though I didn't quite do that, the hole got in the way and the ball went in."

That putt marked the first time in his career that Tiger had eagled the same hole three times during an event.

Woods would birdie the hole on Sunday for a closing round 67 and pick up his 12th career WGC title.

To commemorate the feat, The Grove installed three separate plaques on the hole on the spots where Tiger hit his approach shots from. Players playing in the British Masters this week will no doubt stop and read the text as they hope to emulate the 14-time Major winner. All we can say is, good luck!
