Thorbjørn Olesen had to battle harder than expected to claim his fourth European Tour at the Turkish Airlines Open.
Olesen had a seven stroke lead heading into the final round on Sunday but. at one stage, saw that cut to just one shot after Horsey birdied the 12th hole. Olesen managed to hold his nerve and added birdies to his card at the 12th, 14th and 15th holes to finish three shots clear at 20 under par for the tournament.
While the Dane’s accuracy was far from perfect at 53.6% (64th), using his TaylorMade M1 430 Driver (9.5°) and his TaylorMade M2 woods (15°, 18°) he was able to send the ball a long way off the tee with an average of 290.5 yards which placed him 17th for the week.
Olesen hit an impressive 83.3% of greens in regulation with some stunning iron play. Using his TaylorMade Psi irons, he placed eighth for the week in this particular statistic.
On the rare occasions where greens were not being hit, Olesen managed to make 100% of his sand saves with his TaylorMade Tour Preferred wedges (47°, 54°, 60°). This only underlined the nerves of steel that this feisty Dane had in the locker.
This was further highlighted by an impressive putting display. Olesen used a Nike Method Origin B1-01 putter to devastating effect throughout the Turkish Airlines Open. He needed only 28.5 putts per round which saw him place ninth in putting for the week.
Altogether, an impressive showing from an even more impressive champion. Here is the champion's full bag:
