What's in the bag: SSP Chawrasia

The term "horses for courses" would seem to aptly describe SSP Chawrasia's history at Dehli Golf Club.

The Indian's victory last week was his sixth straight top five finish at the course, and his third career win there. Chawrasia carded a final round 71, including a birdie on the 72nd hole to take home his third career European Tour title.

Standing just 1.65m tall, Chawrasia's formula for success is different from that of many modern golfers. The 37 year old did not have a driver in his bag and trusted a 14-degree TaylorMade SLDR fairway wood for most of his tee shots. He averaged just 254 yards off the tee, ranking 65th of the 74 players that made the cut.

Delhi Golf Club is notorious for its tight and firm fairways and that combination challenged many of the players off the tee. Chawrasia hit 37 of 56 fairways, or 66 per cent, for the four rounds which saw him rank 30th. However, it was the Indian's stunning short game that earned him the trophy.

In total, Chawrasia missed 26 greens in regulation but was able to make par of better 22 times.

Armed with two Titleist Vokey SM4 wedges, he was five-for-five in sand saves and made perhaps the par of the year so far when he missed the green at the par three 12th hole on Saturday.

Just as impressive was Chawrasia's touch on the greens. Using an Odyssey Metal X No. 6 putter he ranked inside the top three players in the field in both Putts per GIR (1.592) and Putts per Round (25.8).
