What's in the bag - Marco Crespi

Marco Crespi made history at the NH Collection Open by becoming the oldest rookie to win in European Tour history and he has accuracy from the tee and a sure touch with the putter to thank for his maiden triumph.

Marco Crespi

As one of the straightest hitters on Tour the Italian ranked third for the week in Driving Accuracy, finding the short grass 87.5 per cent of the time, an improvement on his numbers for the season so far, which have seen him hit 83.2 per cent in 2014.

Playing from the fairway is always a great help, but to win at the highest level you usually need to be on top form with the putter too, and Crespi was just that at La Reserva de Sotogrande Club de Golf.

The 35 year old ranked second in Putts per GIR with 1.633 for 72 holes as well as only averaging 28.3 Putts per Round. This is a marked improvement on his numbers for the season which have him at 95thand 75thin those respective categories.

Clear to see, then, the foundations on which Crespi’s maiden title tilt were built as he jumps to 49thin The Race to Dubai having earned himself an exemption until the end of 2015.
