A red-hot putter was Gary Stal’s main weapon during his stunning victory in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, where he came back from eight shots behind Martin Kaymer in the final round to snatch victory.
With an average of 1.622 putts per green in regulation and 27.3 putts per round, Stal was ruthless on the short stuff over the four rounds. His averages placed him fourth and fifth best in those respective categories and helped him reach a 19 under par total.
Helped by a fine greens in regulation percentage – 79.2% to rank 13thin that category – he set up birdie chances on 57 of the 72 holes at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, converting 25 of those.
