Lee Westwood hopes to make a winning return from a two-week break at this week’s Omega European Masters.
The English World Number Two last played in the US PGA Championship, where he finished eighth.
That was a sixth top-ten finish in eight starts, and the 38 year old believes that having refreshed body and mind everything is in place for a strong finish to the year.
“I played well in America,” he said. “I’ve had a nice break on holiday in Barbados for a couple of weeks, water skiing has improved a lot.
“I’m looking forward to starting again for the second half of the season. I play little blocks and try and take nice breaks in the middle. It is the stage and age I am at in my career. I don’t like to play more than three weeks in a row.”
Westwood was champion at Crans-sur-Sierre 12 years ago and revealed his fondness of the venue.
“There is no more beautiful and picturesque place really,” he added. “I tweeted the view out of my window this morning. Put it on twitter. It’s spectacular, wherever you look. The tournament is one of the longest running at the same venue on The European Tour, if not the longest.
“The rich history, some great past winners. Seve’s name is obviously well linked with the event – his face is all over the town this week. I think European Masters title is one that everyone wants. Everyone wants to be the king of the mountain at some point in his career.
“I was lucky enough to be it more than ten years ago now and the course has been getting better over those years. The first few times I came it was a birdie fest – you needed to shoot six or seven under par every round to have a chance. Now it has been toughed up – Seve started that and they’ve carried it on. It seems to get in better condition every year. It is a great place to come.”
