Warren delighted with opening round

Marc Warren was pleased to rediscover his form after a four under par 68 gave him the early clubhouse lead at the BMW PGA Championship.

The 31 year old Scot started the season with a third-place finish at the Joburg Open, but has only made five cuts in ten events since with a best finish of 29th in India.

That run comes after a difficult couple of years for the former Omega Mission Hills World Cup winner, who won European Tour titles in 2006 and 2007 but lost his card at the end of 2010 and only regained it by €8,000 last season.

“I had a couple of weeks off and I was doing a bit of work on my swing on my own,” said Warren, who carded four birdies, two bogeys and an eagle at the par five 12th at Wentworth Club. “Then coming into this week, I've seen a lot of Pete Cowen the last couple of days, and I think that I just have a better understanding of where the bad shots were coming from.

“I had a couple of good bunker shots early on around the turn to keep everything going, but after that hit a few good iron shots and nice to make some birdies, and a nice eagle on 12.

“There’s a long way to go. Conditions are perfect out there, the course is great, so it was nice to be out first and turn out a good score.”
