Waitrose serves up tee-time delights

Supermarket chain Waitrose has been announced as the official hospitality sponsor of the 2013 ISPS Handa Wales Open.

Waitrose will prepare delicious menus from their extensive range of produce for VIP hospitality guests at the tournament staged at Wales’ Celtic Manor Resort from August 29 - September 1.

More than 300 guests per day in the Waitrose Hospitality Experience will enjoy morning buns and pastries, a sumptuous four-course lunch with wine, and afternoon tea, all while watching top-class sporting action at the iconic venue of The 2010 Ryder Cup.

Some of the mouth-watering dishes have been created by the Waitrose Cookery School, headed up by chef Gordon McDermott, and others will include treats from Waitrose’s Duchy Originals and Heston luxury brands.

Waitrose will also put their own stylish stamp on the décor of the pavilion with a Waitrose-green carpet, floral displays, crisp white linen and white leather chairs giving the interior a fresh, modern feel.

“The Celtic Manor Resort is a world-renowned golfing venue and the scenic Twenty Ten Course provides a wonderful setting for the Waitrose Hospitality Experience.”

The four tournament days of hospitality provision at the ISPS Handa Wales Open will include the return of Ladies Day on Saturday 31stAugust, when golf meets glamour with guests dressing to the nines to enjoy one of the social and sporting highlights of the summer.

Celtic Manor Resort Chief Executive Dylan Matthews said: “We are delighted to welcome Waitrose to our portfolio of sponsors for the ISPS Handa Wales Open.

“The name Waitrose is synonymous with great quality food and I’m sure their expertise will help the tournament’s hospitality offering reach a whole new level.”

Hospitality guests will also take home a Waitrose goodie bag including an apron, recipe cards and a selection of treats from the Waitrose product range.

With a prize fund of £1.8m, the ISPS Handa Wales Open has grown into one of the premier events on The European Tour International Schedule. Past winners include Ryder Cup stars Paul McGinley, Paul Lawrie, Ian Poulter, Miguel Angel Jiménez, Robert Karlsson and Graeme McDowell, who claimed the winning point in The Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor in 2010.

Many of Europe’s leading players will tee up at this summer’s event which kicks off the qualifying race for the next year’s Ryder Cup team.
