Volvo Masters venue investment

Pierre G. Aron, President of Montecastillo Hotel and Golf Resort, said: “Following consultation with the European Tour and Volvo Event Management, a major investment programme was put in place to enhance the examination and condition of the course.

“Montecastillo was developed with the intention of being the best Golf Resort in Europe and this investment underlines the determination of the owners to reach this goal.

“As part of this programme, new machinery was purchased to provide the greenstaff with the finest equipment with which to carry out major renovation work to all areas of the course and specifically the fairways and greens.

“This work is in the process of being completed, ahead of schedule in addition. The aim is to have a consistent growth of rough for the Volvo Masters, when we look forward to welcoming and hosting the finest players in Europe.”

The Montecastillo Hotel and Golf Resort has rebuilt all bunkers installed new drainage, and will fill them with white marmolina sand similar to that at Augusta National and Valderrama. In addition, more than 2,500 trees have been planted and with general maintenance to the lakes and the construction of retaining walls on the 10th and 15th holes, the course has enjoyed a complete overhaul.

A new tee has been constructed at the first hole and will add 31 metres, making the hole 356 metres in length. This will bring the fairway bunkers into play. The course itself will now measure 6,455 metres.

George O’Grady, Deputy Executive Director of the European Tour, said: “We congratulate Pierre Aron and the Montecastillo Hotel and Golf Resort on this investment programme which demonstrates the desire of the owners to provide a first class course for Tour competition.”

The American Financial Corporation, Colony, has become a major investor and is committed to adding additional facilities and amenities with further investment planned next year.
