Dale Whitnell this week defends his title against a wealth of talent from the world of golf, with 78 men and 78 women competing for one trophy and one prize fund at Vasatorps Golfklubb.

Sweden boasts a strong charge chasing victory on home soil, with PGA TOUR dual member Alexandor Björk joined by compatriots and fellow DP World Tour members Vincent Norrman, Sebastian Söderberg and Jesper Svensson.

Linn Grant, who made history by becoming the first female to win on the DP World Tour at this event, leads the home hopes among the women and is joined by Solheim Cup teammate Caroline Hedwall and Johanna Gustavsson.

A host of players who have won on the DP World Tour so far this season are teeing it up, including Nacho Elvira who returned to the winner’s circle with victory at the Soudal Open in Belgium last month.

Favourite - Sebastian Söderberg

The Swedish fans are this week blessed with a plethora of home hopes to cheer on, with Söderberg making his first DP World Tour start since making the cut at last month’s US PGA Championship.

Prior to that, he topped the Asian Swing Rankings as he registered three successive top-five finishes, including back-to-back runner-up finishes in India and Japan.

He also tops the Stroke Average category among DP World Tour members so far this season and alongside Thriston Lawrence boasts the most top-ten finishes on the 2024 Race to Dubai with six.

Could this be the week he lands a second DP World Tour title to go along with his victory at the Omega European Masters in 2019?

Form Horse – Johannes Veerman

The back-to-back top-five finishes of Niklas Norgaard meant it was a toss-up between the Dane and in-form American Veerman.

On this occasion, we have opted for the greater consistency of Veerman so far this season, who is yet to miss a cut and has finished in the top in three of his last four starts.

On one of those occasions, he finished in a tie for second in India and confidence will be high in his game having shot under par in each of his last five rounds.

The 2021 D+D Real Czech Masters champion has made the cut in each of his two previous appearances at this week’s tournament, including a top 20 on his debut in 2022.

Wild Card – Bronte Law

Could history repeat itself and we celebrate a second female winner of this event on the DP World Tour?

Well, England’s Law leads the Ladies European Tour Order of Merit after winning the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco, before three further top ten finishes this year.

In a Solheim Cup year, the 29-year-old is performing at a high level on a consistent basis with just one missed cut all year.

Last year, Anne Van Dam was the highest-placed female in T3 and Law will hope to impress as one of the leading names in the world of women’s golf on show.

Fantasy Insight: As it stands, Alexander Björk is the favourite among players of our Fantasy Game this week, featuring in 67% of teams. Other popular players include Niklas Nørgaard (58%) and Sebastian Söderberg (51%).

Jesper Svensson, who won his first DP World Tour title in Singapore earlier this season, is the fourth most picked player from those in the field, featuring in 33% of Fantasy teams.

Looking back – European Open

Last week, the European Open – the first of two visits to Germany in the ongoing European Swing – saw Laurie Canter claim his maiden DP World Tour title.

After four runner-up finishes on the DP World Tour, including at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open earlier this season, a closing one-under-par 72 at Green Eagle Golf Courses helped the Englishman to a two-shot victory.

Following on from his top ten finish at the Soudal Open, ten per cent of Fantasy users picked the 34-year-old in their teams with Romain Langasque – the most picked – missing the cut.
