Top five players Viktor Hovland and Patrick Cantlay, and 2015 champion Rickie Fowler have confirmed they will join the world-class field at the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open, with tickets on sale at etg.golf/GSOTickets.
The trio join a stellar line-up at the Rolex Series event, with Hovland and Cantlay making it eight of the top ten players in the Official World Golf Ranking, joining World Number One Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, defending champion Xander Schauffele, Max Homa, Matt Fitzpatrick and Jordan Spieth.
European Ryder Cup star Hovland is set to arrive in Scotland in scintillating form, after capturing his fourth PGA TOUR title at the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday earlier this month. He has three further top tens this year - including a runner up finish at the US PGA Championship and tied seventh at the Masters – and added a top 20 finish at the U.S. Open on Sunday.
The Norwegian will be making his second appearance at the Genesis Scottish Open, aiming to add a third DP World Tour title in successive seasons, and his second on the Rolex Series, following triumphs at the 2021 BMW International Open and 2022 Hero Dubai Desert Classic.
Hovland said: “It’s been an awesome season so far, with a memorable win a few weeks ago. I’m looking forward to getting back to Scotland in July and hopefully keeping the form rolling.”
Cantlay, the 2021 FedExCup Champion, is aiming to build on a tied fourth place finish on his Genesis Scottish Open debut last year, which he followed up with a top ten in the 150th Open at St Andrews.
The eight-time PGA TOUR winner is enjoying another impressive year, with six top tens in 2023, including third place at the Genesis Invitational and tied ninth at the US PGA Championship, and also finished inside the top 20 at Los Angeles Country Club.
He said: “I had an enjoyable two weeks in Scotland last summer, and I’m pleased to be able to add the Genesis Scottish Open to my schedule again ahead of The Open.”
For Fowler, it’s a return to a familiar part of the world. The five-time PGA TOUR winner claimed his first win in Europe just along the East Lothian coastline in Gullane, when he triumphed in Scotland’s national open in 2015.
The four-time US Ryder Cup star has an enviable record at the event, with a further three top-tens in his six previous appearances. He is also set to arrive in Scotland in fine form, after carding a historic opening round of 62 on the way to a tied fifth U.S. Open finish last week.
Fowler said: “I always enjoy coming back to the Genesis Scottish Open, and particularly to this area, where I have great memories. It will be fun to tee it up in front of the Scottish fans again.”
The Genesis Scottish Open is co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR, counting on both the Race to Dubai Rankings in Partnership with Rolex and the FedExCup, and boasts Genesis, the luxury automotive brand from South Korea, as title sponsor. Genesis title-sponsor two tournaments on the PGA TOUR’s 2022-2023 schedule, with Jon Rahm triumphing at the Genesis Invitational at The Riviera Country Club in February.
The Genesis Scottish Open benefits from the continued commitment of the Scottish Government, managed by VisitScotland, and retains its place in golf’s global calendar the week ahead of The Open as part of these agreements through to 2025.
