Vierumäki Finnish Challenge: Tournament Guide

The European Challenge Tour heads to Finland for the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge. Here are the talking points ahead of the action getting started.

Vierumaki GC

Back at Vierumäki

This week will mark the 14th staging of the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge as the event returns to Vierumäki Resort for the seventh consecutive time.

The event, which was first held in 2001 when Swede Klas Eriksson was victorious, made its return to the Challenge Tour’s International Schedule in 2012 after an eight-year gap, with another Swedish player, Kristoffer Broberg, reigning supreme.

Home star Kim Koivu became the first Finnish player to win the event in 2018, en route to sealing automatic promotion to the DP World Tour with three wins during the season.

The final third

With the Road to Mallorca heading into the final third of the season, attention turns to the all-important top-20 places on the Road to Mallorca Rankings.

With promotion to the DP World Tour up for grabs, and with just nine tournaments remaining to consolidate positions or move into contention, a strong finish has never been more important.

Roope Kakko

Flying the flag

Home fans will have plenty to cheer for this week as 16 Finnish players tee it up at Vierumäki Resort, including DP World Tour winner Roope Kakko.

Kakko won his maiden DP World Tour title in 2015 at the Madeira Islands Open – Portugal – BPI and also has two Challenge Tour victories to his name, including the 2004 Volvo Finnish Open.
