Kiet van der Weele is looking to continue his meteoric rise in the golfing world when he tees it up at this week’s Andalucía Challenge de Cádiz at Iberostar Real Golf Novo Sancti Petri.

The Dutchman secured automatic promotion to the Challenge Tour after winning three times on the Alps Tour in his last three appearances, with his most recent victory arriving at the Open de La Mirabelle d'Or in France.
The 22-year-old was delighted to earn European Challenge Tour playing privileges for the remainder of the 2023 season and the full 2024 campaign and is hoping to continue his red-hot form in Spain this week.
“It’s been a crazy few weeks,” he said. “I earned automatic promotion from the Alps Tour to the Challenge Tour and that means I have a full card for the rest of the season and 2024 which is amazing for me.
“I’ve put in a lot of hard work over the last year since I turned professional, and I’ve worked well with my coaches on the long-term plan. I think that has paid off this year.
“I need to keep doing what I’ve been doing. I know what the level I need to perform at because I have played Challenge Tour events in the past and I think if I focus on my own game, the rest will take care of itself.”
The Dutchman has made giant strides in his golfing career recently, but his focus now turns to the task at hand and fending off the strong winds on the Andalucían coast this week.
“I’m in a luxury position to have my card for 2024 and therefore I’m just going to take it week by week and focus on putting in good performances,” he said.
“The course looks amazing and the facilities have been great, so I am really impressed. The wind is blowing so that will play a big factor this week but I’m really looking forward to it.”
Van der Weele joins a strong field in Spain which includes seven-time DP World Tour winner Álvaro Quirós, Road to Mallorca Number Two Casey Jarvis and Matteo Manassero, the youngest winner in DP World Tour history.
Pep Anglès and Kristof Ulenaers, past winners of the Andalucía Challenge de Cádiz, will also return to their happy hunting ground this week. Anglès secured victory at Iberostar Real Golf Novo Sancti Petri in 2020 on his way to earning promotion to the DP World Tour, while Ulenaers picked up a sensational victory on his professional debut here in 2021.
The action will get under way at 8:00am local time on Thursday, with van der Weele teeing it up alongside Anglès and Ulenaers at 8:30am.
