Well what a day that was, and to try and help everyone digest it better, here are a couple of the key digits that stood out for us at the end of round one.

66 – the Englishman’s six under par opening round matched his low round in a major

8 – rounds in the 60s from his last nine rounds for Rory McIlroy

327.5 – the average driving distance from McIlroy round Valhalla

16 – under par for Edoardo Molinari in his last five rounds (four at the Open Championship & his 66 today)

70 – for Senior Tour trailblazer Colin Montgomerie in his opening round

– birdie for Tiger Woods as the American got his US PGA Championship under way with a 74

4.4487 – average score on the hardest hole, the par four second

4.6258 – field’s average score on the easiest hole, the par five 18th

31 – shots it took Luke Donald to get to the turn in four under par, before coming home in a three over par 39

100 - Official World Golf Ranking points on offer to the winner this week

39 – under par for Ireland’s form man Shane Lowry in his last 13 rounds on The European Tour

1 – pair of torn trousers on the second hole for Chris Wood, who had to borrow waterproofs in the sweltering heat while someone fetched him another pair

50 – per cent of fairways found for Rickie Fowler today, but the consistent American still managed to post a two under par 69
