The 2022 Road to Mallorca begins in South Africa this week with the Dimension Data Pro-Am taking place at Fancourt Golf Estate, George. Here’s everything you need to know before the action gets under way…
It all begins here…
The 2022 Road to Mallorca International Schedule begins in George this week, with the first of seven co-sanctioned events with the Sunshine Tour. Challenge Tour players will get the opportunity to tee it up alongside some of the best talent from the African continent in six events on South African soil, before the South African Swing comes to an end with a maiden visit to Tanzania for the Mount Kilimanjaro Klassic in April. The 2022 Road to Mallorca contains 30 events in 18 countries, across three continents as players bid for one of 20 life-changing DP World Tour cards for the 2023 season.
Fabulous Fancourt…
Fancourt Golf Estate, the venue for the Dimension Data Pro-Am, is Southern Africa’s premier golf and leisure resort, which is set at the foot of the majestic Outeniqua Mountains. The tournament will be played over Fancourt’s three courses – Montagu, Outeniqua and The Links – all three of which were designed by the legendary Gary Player. The Links is currently ranked as the country’s number one course by Golf Digest South Africa and was described by Player as his greatest ever feat as a course designer.
Major Man…
This week’s field is split equally between the Challenge Tour and the Sunshine Tour, and the latter’s entry list contains the name of a Major Champion – Retief Goosen. The 53-year-old is a two-time U.S. Open Champion, lifting the trophy in 2001 and 2004, and has also won the DP World Tour Order of Merit on two occasions. ‘The Goose’ has 37 professional titles to his name, in addition to 30 amateur titles, and is recognised as one of South Africa’s greatest ever golfers.
