The Championship will be played over 72 holes of stroke play with one 18 hole round being played each day.
Played in teams of two, one professional and one amateur, the competitors will play each of the three courses over the first three days with the final round being played over the Old Course.
There will be two competitions running concurrently: Pro Individual and Team which will be the lower of the professional’s and his amateur partner’s score at each hole.
Teams will remain the same throughout the event and will play each of the three courses in rotation over the first three days with the final round being played over the Old Course. Play will be in 4 ball groups.
The competitions:
- Pro Individual - The professional's individual medal score
- Team - The team score will be the aggregate of the lower net score of the two team members at each hole. (Amateurs will play off their lowest Club handicaps and will receive their FULL handicap allowance). Amateurs must have an Official Handicap no higher than 18 for men and 24 for women.
Because of the difference in the women’s par over the Old Course (76) and Carnoustie (74), it is proposed to allow women contestants FOUR courtesy shots at the Old Course and TWO courtesy shots at Carnoustie. (The par for men and women at Kingsbarns is the same – 72).
After 54 holes the field will be reduced to the Top 60 professionals and those tieing for 60th place and the leading 20 teams. Any ties for the 20th TEAM spot will be determined as follows:-
The TEAM with the lowest INDIVIDUAL PRO 54 hole score.
The lowest TEAM score over the Old Course.
The lowest TEAM score over holes 10 -18 of the Old Course and thence holes 13 -18, holes 16 - 18 and if still tied the final hole.
If the tie or ties can still not be determined there would be a match of the team's scores over the Old Course starting on hole 1.
