Hennie Otto, Søren Kjeldsen and Peter Whiteford took time out after their second rounds at the Barclays Scottish Open to support the Barclays Charity Birdie Pledge which benefits Action for Children – Scotland, the Official Charity of the Barclays Scottish Open.
The players’ Pledges could generate over £5,000 to the funds raised by the initiative which is lead by Barclays Capital, who have pledged a donation of £10 for every birdie, £50 for every eagle and £100 for every albatross scored during the Championship.
With some outstanding scoring by the world’s leading players at Castle Stuart, the total amount donated by Barclays could be as much as £20,000.
The three players completed a pledge form on behalf of the charitable foundation of the European Tour, The Tour Players Foundation.
During their visit to the Action for Children Exhibition stand in the Sponsor's Village, Otto, Kjeldsen and Whiteford praised Barclays commitment to the Birdie Pledge – and with 36 birdies between them during the first two rounds they had already handsomely contributed to the sums raised.
With half of the field still to complete their second round the total amount of birdies and eagles stands at 1,115 and 46 respectively with no albatrosses scored to date.
The spectating public can also support Action for Children by donating through the Birdie Pledge Initiative. Pledges can start from as little as one pence per birdie or a one-off donation can also be made, those donating have the opportunity to predict the total number of birdies with the correct guesses receiving a pair of season passes to next year’s Barclays Scottish Open.
Other fundraising activities taking place at this year’s event include a silent auction in the hospitality units supported by the sponsors and partners of the event who have donated a variety of sports, lifestyle and entertainment auction lots.
Action for Children works with vulnerable, disadvantaged, abused, neglected children, young people and their families. In the Highlands alone, they have ten services running concurrently in Inverness (2), Nairn, Forres, Alness & Dingwall, Elgin, Lochaber, Buckie & Aberdeen.
