Torrance to tee it up at Farmfoods European Senior Masters

Sam Torrance will be one of three victorious European Ryder Cup Captains teeing it up at the Forest of Arden after confirming his appearance at the Farmfoods European Senior Masters from October 20-22.

The Scotsman, a 21-time European Tour winner, has fond memories of the Midlands as it was his winning putt at The Belfry in 1985 that ended 28 years of American dominance in The Ryder Cup. In 2002, he captained Europe to a sensational victory at the same venue, with Paul McGinley, also playing at Forest of Arden, securing the win.

Torrance joins McGinley and Ian Woosnam in the star-studded field, which also includes ten further Ryder Cup players, including Peter Baker, who will make his over-50s debut.

"I am delighted to be playing in the inaugural Farmfoods European Senior Masters," said Torrance. "I have very fond memories of playing in the Midlands with my history with the Ryder Cup, and I will look forward to catching up with some old friends at the Forest of Arden.

"The field is extremely strong with the likes of Woosie and Paul playing, it will certainly be a competitive test."

Hosted by Baker, the European Senior Masters serves as the penultimate event on the 2017 European Senior Tour schedule and is the first event of its kind in the Midlands for a decade. The winner will be rewarded with €50,000, as part of the total €200,000 prize fund.

David MacLaren, Head of the European Senior Tour, said: "We are delighted to welcome Sam to the Forest of Arden. His achievements over the years have been incredible and it'll be great to see him reunited with Paul McGinley, in particular, after their 2002 Ryder Cup success."
