Torrance targeting one more win in his 50s

Sam Torrance is targeting one more win in his 50s as he starts the final round of the SSE Scottish Senior Open three shots behind leader Peter Fowler.

The 2002 European Ryder Cup Captain, the last Scot to win the title in 2006, celebrates his 60th birthday next Saturday.

After ten years on the European Senior Tour which have yielded 11 victories and three Order of Merit titles, Torrance is hoping he can sign off the decade in style with a sentimental win on the Fairmont St Andrews course he designed.

“I’m not far away at three shots back so it’s not bad,” said Torrance, after a level par second round of 72.

“The last decade has gone so quickly. From 50 to 60 has been ridiculous. I’m not quite playing as well as I was when I was 50. I did yesterday though. I think there is another win in me. At least one more.

“Sam at 60! I’ll get my bus pass I suppose. And about £200 fuel money!"

Earlier this week, Torrance was named the Great Britain and Ireland Captain for the Seve Trophy presented by Golf+ which takes place in Paris in October.
