Tommy Fleetwood has been voted Hilton Golfer of the Month for June thanks in no small part to a scintillating performance at the U.S. Open Championship.
The Englishman secured 41 per cent of the public vote to beat Thorbjørn Olesen, who collected 28 per cent of the vote, and collect the monthly honour.
It was Fleetwood’s final round 63, seven under par, at Shinnecock Hills that caught the eye of many golf fans, as this tied the record for the lowest round at a U.S. Open.
It could have been a record breaking round if the 2017 Race to Dubai champion’s eight foot birdie putt had of dropped at the last. This would also have seen him into a play-off with Brooks Koepka, who ultimately won back to back U.S. Open titles.
Olesen also had an excellent month, winning the Italian Open – a Rolex Series event – before finishing tied second at the BMW International Open three weeks later.
Mikko Korhonen collected 23 per cent of the vote in a month when he celebrated his first European Tour victory at the Shot Clock Masters, while Matt Wallace picked up his third European Tour title at the BMW International Open.
Fans who cast their vote for Hilton Golfer of the month are automatically entered into a fantastic prize draw, with one lucky voter winning a two-night stay at any Hilton hotel, anywhere in the world.
As the most recent recipient of the award, Fleetwood will be automatically upgraded to Hilton Honors Diamond Status—Hilton’s award-winning loyalty program.
Hilton is the Official Sponsor of the Hilton Golfer of the Month award, which recognises and rewards the best performances of European Tour Members each month.
