Ahead of the DP World Tour Championship, the final Rolex Series event of the season, Tommy Fleetwood and DP World officially opened The DP World Golf Performance Centre at Jumeirah Golf Estates, home to the region's first ever Tommy Fleetwood Academy.
The partnership between DP World and the Tommy Fleetwood Academy comes off the back of the Englishman retaining the Nedbank Golf Challenge title in one of this season's most thrilling victories.
DP World is committed to growing grassroots golf in the region, encouraging children to learn to play the game of golf, something Fleetwood is also extremely passionate about.
“We are so excited to be opening the Tommy Fleetwood Academy at the DP World Golf Performance Centre, with Dubai now being our base it’s the perfect connection.
"Growing the game of golf is something I am truly passionate about, especially in the next generation.
"From being a young player in Southport up until now, golf has always brought me so much happiness. It has taught me many invaluable lessons, lessons which I still use to this day.
"Our mission with the academy is that we offer people the same opportunity to learn and enjoy the game that I love but have fun whilst doing it. A huge thanks to DP World, Dubai Golf and Jumeriah Golf Estates for making this happen it’s so important to me. I am often down at the academy, so I look forward to seeing you all there.”
Danny Van Otterdijk, Chief Communications Officer at DP World, said: “We’re thrilled to be opening the DP World Golf Performance Centre at Jumeirah Golf Estates alongside Tommy and Dubai Golf, this is one of the many steps DP World is taking to reinforce our commitment to growing grassroots golf at all levels in the UAE, which is fast becoming a key destination on the global golfing hub. Within the DP World Golf Performance Centre, Tommy Fleetwood, one of the best players in the world and Sunday’s winner at the Nedbank Golf Challenge the penultimate tournament on the DP World Tour, is opening his second golf academy, which will help to attract the next generation of golfers in Dubai.”
One of DP World’s key goals has been to grow the game of golf globally and drive positive community impact. The opening of the DP World Golf Academy and the Tommy Fleetwood Academy has certainly met those goals.
Fleetwood’s first academy was opened in Southport, England in 2018 at Formby Hall, where he learnt the game under the instruction of his first coach Norman Marshal. The success of the Southport academy then led to Fleetwood, DP World and Dubai Golf joining forces to launch both the academy and the DP World Golf Performance Centre.
