Tom Watson wins Shot of the Year 2017

Golfing icon Tom Watson’s incredible approach shot at Royal Porthcawl during The Senior Open Presented by Rolex has been voted as Shot of the Year for the 2017 season.

Watson, a renowned links specialist, received 34.2 per cent of the public vote, narrowly edging out Australia’s David McKenzie whose hole-in-one, also at The Senior Open, received 32.1 per cent of the vote.

A three-time winner of the Senior Claret Jug, Watson said that the conditions endured by the field at Royal Porthcawl were some of the toughest he and his colleagues had ever played in.

“I love the challenge of playing in bad weather, and we had plenty at Royal Porthcawl!,” said Watson. “I’m glad golf fans appreciated this one. I can still hit a few good ones, and I hope to hit a few more at St Andrews in July.”

Congratulations to competition winner Craig Pearce from the United Kingdom, who was randomly selected as the winner of an incredible St Andrews experience at the 32ndstaging of The Senior Open in July.
