Tom McKibbin has his sights set on claiming his second DP World Tour title as he makes his final appearance of a memorable 2024 at the Alfred Dunhill Championship.
The Northern Irishman won his breakthrough DP World Tour title last year and while he may not have added further silverware since, there can be no denying he has taken his game to new heights over the last 12 months.
McKibbin registered nine top tens on last season’s Race to Dubai, including a runner-up finish in Italy, while he played his first Major Championship at the U.S. Open, before going on to feature at The Open.
It was his consistency across the campaign that enabled him to secure dual membership status for 2025, with a birdie on the final hole of the season-ending DP World Tour Championship last month securing him the tenth and final PGA TOUR card via the Race to Dubai Rankings.
After returning to action last week at the Nedbank Golf Challenge, the 21-year-old now makes his 27th and final start of the year.
“I’d love to finish the year on a high and try and get another win,” he said of his goals and expectations for the week ahead.
“But I am just out here to try and enjoy the week, have a nice time here at what is a special place and just enjoy what this week is and have fun.”
McKibbin struggled at Sun City last week but is excited for another week on South African soil as he makes just his second start at the Alfred Dunhill Championship, two years on from finishing tied 13th on debut.
“It’s been a long year, good to come down here and try and finish it off quite nicely,” he added.
Since graduating from the European Challenge Tour in 2022, McKibbin has achieved a great deal in a short space of time and broke into the world’s top 100 for the first time earlier this year.
While he now finds himself on the outside looking in of that mark, he has emerged to a wider audience in recent months and is understandably full of belief in his game.
“To have progressed so fast the way I have through the years is pretty cool and gives me confidence going forward,” he said.
