General admission tickets will go on sale today for the eagerly anticipated return of the Cazoo Open de France, where defending champion Nicolas Colsaerts will be joined by French stars Alexander Levy, Matthieu Pavon, Victor Perez and Antoine Rozner.
The 104th edition of continental Europe’s oldest national open will once again be staged at Le Golf National, venue of the 2018 Ryder Cup, from September 22-25.
Tickets are expected to be in high demand, as French golf fans look forward to the return of their home-grown heroes and many of the DP World Tour’s finest for the first time in three years.
General admission tickets are available here, whilst past ticket purchasers and FFG (Fédération française de golf) members also have access to an exclusive discounted rate for the next 14 days.
Colsaerts claimed an emotional triumph in 2019, the Belgian’s first title in seven years, when he overcame Joachim B Hansen by one shot, and the star of Europe’s famous 2012 Ryder Cup victory in the ‘Miracle at Medinah’ is relishing the opportunity to finally defend his title.
“I’m excited to return to Le Golf National and defend my title,” said Colsaerts. “It has been a long wait since the 2019 event, not only for me but for the French golf fans, and I am looking forward to playing in front of them in September.
“It is a tournament and a venue which has always been close to my heart so to win in 2019 was very special, and it will be a lot of fun to step onto that first tee as defending champion.”
The 39-year-old will be joined in the field by home heroes Levy, Pavon, Perez and Rozner. It will be Levy’s tenth appearance at his national open while Pavon will play for a fourth time, having enjoyed a strong start to the 2022 DP World Tour season with one top five and one top ten in three appearances.
Perez claimed a top 20 finish in his last appearance on home soil, three weeks after he won his maiden title at the 2019 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland, while Rozner has become a two-time winner since he last played in front of his home fans – winning the 2020 Golf in Dubai Championship followed closely by his 2021 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters triumph.
The 2022 Cazoo Open de France will have a prize fund of €3million – double the amount played for in the last edition of the tournament in 2019. The DP World Tour returns to the outskirts of Paris from September 22-25, the same week in the golfing calendar as the 2018 Ryder Cup, where Thomas Bjørn’s Team Europe defeated the United States 17½ - 10½ in France’s first ever hosting of golf’s greatest team event.
French golfing legend Arnaud Massy famously won the inaugural edition in 1906 before successfully defending his title in 1907, the same year he made history by becoming the first non-British player to win the Open Championship.
Le Golf National first played host to France’s national open in 1991, when Argentinian Eduardo Romero overcame Sam Torrance and José María Olazábal by two strokes.
Torrance (1998) and Olazábal (2001) are among the many golfing legends to have put their names on the coveted trophy in the Le Golf National era, along with Retief Goosen (1999), Miguel Ángel Jiménez (2010), Colin Montgomerie (2000) and Martin Kaymer (2009) to name but a few.
Only two players have won on multiple occasions there, both doing so in successive years – home favourite Jean-François Remesy (2004-2005) and former U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell (2013-2014).
