The Staysure Tour heads to Germany for the eighth edition of the WINSTONgolf Senior Open this week. With four former winners, including the defending champion, plus a ten-time Senior Major Champion in the field, we pick out three players to keep a close eye on this week.
Bernhard Langer
Home fans will be hoping to see the record ten-time Senior Major Champion claim his first title on home soil since 2001, as he plays on the Staysure Tour in Europe for the first time in the 2019 season.
Langer has three top ten finishes at WINSTONgolf Senior Open, including a runner-up spot after losing out to Paul Wesselingh in a play-off in 2014. The German, who is attached to WINSTONgolf, knows the courses well and that local knowledge could be an advantage when it comes to tackling the track this week.
Chris Williams
The South African’s last two results suggest he is extremely close to clinching his third Staysure Tour title. A share of second place at the Swiss Seniors Open at the beginning of the month was followed with a solo runner-up spot last week at the European Tour Destinations Senior Classic.
In his last six rounds, Williams has recorded a total of 19 under par with five out of the six rounds being in the 60s. Should he shoot three successive sub-70 rounds this week, expect him to be contending for the title.
Barry Lane
The WINSTONgolf Senior Open returns to the WINSTONopen course for the first time since 2015 this season and Lane will be hoping to go one better on the track where he finished runner-up to Pedro Linhart, having recorded a stunning final round of 62, ten under par, to rocket up the leaderboard.
With the memories of four years ago and a win to his name already in 2019 having triumphed at the Senior Italian Open, the Englishman will be full of confidence when he takes to the German layout in Vorbeck.
