Three tied for lead in Aviemore

There were two new leaders midway through the second round of the Scottish Hydro Challenge hosted by Macdonald Hotels and Resorts as Dane Morten Orum Madsen and England’s Chris Lloyd joined Sam Walker at the top on nine under par.

Madsen carded six birdies as he stepped on to the fourth tee, his 12th, six under par for the day after negotiating the first two rounds in three under par at Macdonald Spey Valley Golf Club.

Lloyd, who signed for a stunning nine under par second round of 62, picked up where he left off thanks to birdies at the fifth and seventh holes which left him two under par for the day and nine under for the tournament.

The overnight leader, Sam Walker, meanwhile, was struggling to build on his form in the opening two days and began the weekend with a bogey at the first hole. He followed that up with another at the sixth and was two over par through six holes, opening the door for two other contenders.

Magnus A Carlsson, Chris Doak and Mark Tullo were just a single shot back on eight under par as the Swede was two under par through seven holes while Chilean Tullo was one under par through seven thanks to two birdies and a bogey.

Home favourite Doak also moved within touching distance of the lead thanks to birdies at the third, fifth, seventh and eighth holes, paired with a bogey at the fourth, which elevated him to tied fourth on eight under par for the tournament.
