Thomas Detry revealed he is feeling "fresh" after posting a 67 to sit in a strong position following the first round of the 2023 Soudal Open.
Belgian Detry went into his home tournament on the back of two weeks off and arrived at Rinkven International well rested.
And after carding five birdies and a single bogey on Thursday morning, the 30-year-old insisted he is just aiming to enjoy the week on his first visit home since October last year.
Detry said: "The course asks for a lot of good iron shots which, strangely enough, didn’t really happen for me today. But I feel like I played some really good golf, though.
"A bit of a boring round really, hit a lot of fairways, pretty much every single green and made a few good putts on the front nine.
"I feel like I could have shot a bit better today, but still pleased with the way I started. I just had two weeks off and I feel very fresh, so it’s a good way to start.
"I’ve had some mixed results here. Last year I had a lot of expectations and missed the cut. I’m just enjoying this week.
"I haven’t been in Belgium since October last year and I’ve been back to see the family, friends and some familiar faces. It’s pretty special.
"Hopefully I can enjoy this week and the rest of the weekend."
