Rory McIlroy’s eight shot victory at Kiawah Island will go down in US PGA Championship history as the largest margin of victory ever recorded, beating Jack Nicklaus’ previous 22 year old record of seven strokes.

Doug Ferguson, Golf Writer for the Associated Press, said: “Rory’s win was the closest anyone has come to winning like Tiger in his most dominant era. He built a lead, delivered a knock-out punch and made no mistakes.
“He went 23 holes without making a bogey. No-one has done anything like that since Tiger’s US Open win at Pebble Beach in 2000 when he went 26 holes without a bogey. Very impressive.”
Philip Reid, Golf Writer for the Irish Times, said: “To beat Jack Nicklaus’s record win in a US PGA to become a multiple Major Champion at the age of 23 is an unbelievable achievement. I believe that this is just a glimpse of what is come. Nick Faldo watch out!”
Bob Harig, Golf Writer for ESPN.com, said: “I think this was a better win than Congressional because he really only built his lead over 27 holes and he did it all in the final day of the tournament under the most pressure you can get during a tournament.
“It was such an impressive performance to win by eight shots. He got up and down eight times – a 100 per cent record in his final round – that’s going to win every time.”
